CHATA ADDY "The Music Man" - Vocals/Hand-drums/Composition

Chata Addy was born and raised outside of Accra, Ghana on the Atlantic coast of West Africa in a family of musicians where his rich background in both traditional and contemporary music was nurtured.

Planting roots in Portland, Oregon since 1987, Chata Addy shares his love and knowledge of African music with adult and youth audiences. Solo shows and group performances with his bands Susuma (contemporary) and Shi-dah (traditional) are the main ways he educates young students in traditional drumming & dance.  As an Arts and Culture instructor through the Young Audiences of Oregon he has been able to reach thousands of people in the Northwest.  Over the years, Chata has performed and recorded with the likes of his uncle Obo Addy, King Sunny Ade, and many others.  He also offers African drum and dance workshops around Oregon and Washington.

In addition to Young Audiences of Oregon, Chata works with a variety of community based youth organizations, providing artistic programming for schools throughout the region.

Chata Addy dedicates his life as a storyteller, songwriter, traditional African dancer, drummer and choreographer to teach people about the arts and culture of his home.  He works to bring peace and joy to the lives of his audiences and students.
